Grain Bunker
Hanson Silo- is the national leader in Grain Storage Systems everything from truly temporary grain
storage system to engineered multi-million bushel automated grain bunkers.
We've built grain storage for the most progressive elevator coops in Minnesota, North Dakota, South
Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri.
With our partners in complete Grain storage systems, we can provide you with horizontal storage
that works, including Hanson Silo Walls, aeration fans, air ducts, and covers.
Our most popular "open air" grain walls are the 8'L walls, while we've seen the market demand
increase for 12' high panels to store grain in buildings in the past few years.
Hanson Silo Grain bunkers can be round, oval, rectangular or a highbred thereof.
Hanson Silo bunkers can be built on top of our grain reclaim tunnels. Pairing these two
powerful technologies will save you time, money and headaches when unlaoding your grain bunkers. All of Hanson's grain reclaim
tunnels can be customised to feature grates as often as you need to make unloading your grain easier and less labor intensive
Commodities such as: wheat, soybeans, corn, dry distillers grain, gluten/ wet cake, canola
and flax are stored in our bunkers. Our bunkers are extensively used at the world's largest food company
as well as the local farmer owned cooperative.
With horizontal grain storage, your Cost Per Bushel can be as low as $0.10 CENTS depending on
your configuration.
- Low Price /bushel
- Extremely Durable compared to wood or steel storage
- Grain reclaim box-culvert tunnels available.
- Variety of custom panels that we can tailor to your aeration needs.
- We have a fabrication shop that manufactures ventilation air tubes and wall to fan transitions
- We build bulkheads for easy entry into Hanson Bunkers.
- Our grain bunkers do not require footings, are free standing and can be anchored if necessary.
In order to achieve a complete package we work with several Millwright companies Cargill
AgHorizons, a business unit of Cargill, Incorporated, is a customer-focused organization working to
bring product and service solutions to producers. With 142,000 employees in 61 countries, the company
is committed to using its knowledge and experience to collaborate with customers to help them
succeed. In 2006, Cargill identified the need to store at least 1.5 million bushels of corn at the
AgHorizons site in Shelton, Nebraska. Cargill chose a Hanson Bunker walls to go inside their Coverall
Titan building.
The fact that the clear span building with Hanson Bunker Walls offered a permanent storage solution
and would allow operation in any environment, including wind, rain or snow, was an instant attraction.
Cargill decided to purchase a 160' wide by 600' long (48.7m x 182.8m) Cover-All TITAN building
with our 8' L panels to store 1.5 million bushels of corn.
Previously, Cargill had been using wood walls covered with tarps to store large volumes of commodities.
After being faced with rapid decomposition of the wood walls, wind blowing them over when
empty, and wet, moldy grain problems, Cargill decided to use a clear-span structure and our proven
engineered precast bunker walls.
Cargill is planning to install a portable conveyor to be used when filling the building with corn and will
use a tractor and portable auger to reclaim the corn by truck. It is the first project in their division and
they are looking forward to doing additional projects. This building gives them big space that is
affordable.

Flat Grain Storage
Flat Grain Storage is quickly becoming the most popular and cost-effective way to store grain. As
farms grow larger, yields continue to increase, cooperatives continue to consolidate, markets remain
volatile, our customers are seeking a better way to store their bulk products. We've met these needs
and exceeded expectations with our modular flat grain storage bunkers.
Our grain bunkers offer up to 5 million bushels of very economical corn, wheat, canola and other grain
storage.
Precast exterior concrete walls from 5' to 19' high in the product storage area. The optional aeration
system has Z shaped tubes that connect through the wall to be flush with the floor and strong enough
to support the grain pressure.
Building or Tarp?
We have worked with nearly all of the different building styles. From steel, to clear span cover
buildings and wood stick built pole barns we work with most building companies to package the best
option for you. For customers interested in a lower upfront cost our partners can supply a tarp
cover to keep the elements from penetrating the commodity. Hanson does offer an engineered OSHA
approved safety walkway for tarping convenience.
Strength
Grain exerts high pressure on walls, and unless the building is designed to withstand the pressure
of grain or other granular products, it will need to be reinforced with Hanson Panels. All of our
grain systems are engineered for up to 100 pounds per cubic foot in wall strength.
Capacity
To estimate the storage capacity that you will need, calculate the volume of the panned grain pile
in cubic feet, then multiply by 0.8 bushels per cubic foot, or divide by 1.25 cubic feet per bushel
to get volume bushels. Our buildings have capacity to hold in excess of 5 million bushels. We will
custom-design each system to the exact specifications our clients need. Another advantage of Hanson
Concrete Bunker walls is: they can easily be expanded and re configured when your needs change. When
yields increase to 300 bushel per acre field average you can be prepared and inexpensively add to your
current grain bunker.
Convenience & Efficiency
Hanson offers different options to fit your budget on unloading and reclaim. You can scoop it out
with a wheel loader or invest in a grain reclaim tunnel. Grain reclaim tunnels are highly efficient
in terms of labor; offering 60% product reclaim before additional manual or equipment is needed.
Moisture & Aeration
Even if grain is dry when it is moved into flat storage, it still needs to be aerated to maintain
grain temperature to reduce mold and insect activity. Our partners offer ambient temperature above
the grain and basic humidity control.
